Awareness, and Volunteerism

Empowering Communities Through Education,

Established in 1992, the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (CPAAA) of Wichita-Sedgwick County is an independent, non-profit, volunteer-driven organization under the sole direction of a Board of Directors and membership composed exclusively of CPA graduates. CPAAA is funded solely by member dues and non-monetary donations from community partners that support the Wichita Police Department, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and the law enforcement community.

Our GOAL and MISSION is to assist, assure and implement positive community awareness of the functions of law enforcement; to assist in fostering better community relationships among citizens and members of law enforcement; to provide educational opportunities and volunteer support for law enforcement affiliated activities which directly impact our community.

On February 7, 2025, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office reported a hit-and-run incident in the Oaklawn area. Authorities are actively searching for the driver who fled the scene. The community is urged to provide any information that could assist in locating the individual responsible.

In January 2025, a Sedgwick County Sheriff’s detective was placed on paid leave after a review of his cases indicated potential criminal conduct. The Sheriff’s Office has initiated a criminal investigation into the matter.

The Wichita Police Department has partnered with Heartspring to launch an Autism Outreach Program. This initiative aims to improve interactions between officers and individuals with autism, enhancing community relations and ensuring better service delivery.
